Let’s be honest: I’m kinda boring. But I’ve got a few things about which I care about enough to devote some digital space. Enjoy.

I like to make stuff…and I like to think I’m pretty good at it. I’ve got enough game that I have a thriving side business creating graphics for friends and friends of friends. If you’d like to see my portfolio (and maybe engage me to make something for you), click over to creativetransplant.com.

13 people die every day waiting for an organ transplant. If not for two donor families, my wife Heather could have been one of those 13. Click here to read Heather’s story.

Take a ridiculously shy kid…add in near constant relocation (count ’em: nine different elementary schools)…toss in a burgeoning love of music, fed by the brilliance of the ’80s pop scene…then plop him down in front of WKRP In Cincinnati for hours at a time…and you end up spending 30 years in radio. Here’s the 411.

In the early ’90s(!), I was invited to tag along with some friends on a trip to Minneapolis for a football game. Looking for something to do the first night of the trip, we decided to check out the local NBA team, and I was immediately transfixed. More here.

I prefer the British term “anorak,” which sounds far classier, but it doesn’t make for a very good headline, so “nerdery” it is. Anyway…here’s some of my other, more obscure and slightly embarassing interests:

I’m obsessed with finding the perfect ink pen, so I’m constantly buying new ones — but I always come back to the Pilot Juice Up .03. Alas, they’re only sold in Japan, so I have to order from an importer.

While in broadcasting school, I was introduced to the relatively new phenomenon of Teh Interwebz, and stumbled on a website with audio clips of stations — mostly their legal IDs. Because a legal ID is often the only way to tell exactly what station you’re listening to, I became obsessed with them, and eventually started a website of my own. (I’ve since handed it off to other, like-minded nerds to manage, but I’m still a fan.) Get your legal geek on at tophour.com.

I like jingles. I really like jingles. I especially like an enormous, slammin’ top of the hour jingle into a big fat uptempo record. I have a huge collection of jingles on my phone and often listen to them in my car at air shattering volume.
